Before any therapy work begins, a contract will be created and signed which formalises the relationship of client and therapist and clearly states the measures taken to ensure the safety of the work produced or discussed in session. This contract guarantees the privacy of the therapy material and assures the client that their sessions are completely confidential. As art psychotherapists, we are regulated by professional bodies such as the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT) which require us to engage in clinical supervision with other therapists. This is a requirement of all professional psychotherapists. We may ask that we share therapy material in supervision sessions, in which the supervisor is also bound by a contract of the confidentiality of the work.
Where physical material, such as the artwork, is created in session, we will hold them in private and locked facilities whilst the therapy is ongoing, and store any digital information in password protected or encrypted files. We will never share your name, address or other personal details with anyone outside our specific agreements unless we have strong reason to believe there is an issue of safety or risk. Where any written material is shared in clinical supervision, all personal or identifying details relating to the client will be carefully removed and/or anonymised. We are also registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office which ensures the protection of data that we hold under the GDPR Data Protection Act of 2018.
